Openness

Being open and honest about what you are thinking, how you are feeling and why you are taking
a particular action.

Openness is a value that tends to pervade all the behavioural sciences. This is not only because of ethical considerations but more pragmatically because there is an assumption that if you treat others as you would wish to be treated, they will respond in kind. In other words, if you are open with people they will tend to reciprocate by being more open themselves.

Being open and honest about what you are thinking, how you are feeling and why you are doing whatever you are doing is deemed to be efficient and helpful because otherwise people waste precious time and energy trying to guess what you are up to. No one has access to your thoughts, feelings and motives, only to your actions (ie behaviour), and so unless you are open in revealing them, people are obliged to indulge in speculation.
